Digital Power System Management

Analog Devices Inc. Digital Power System Management (PSM) devices help designers simplify and accelerate power system characterization, optimization, and data mining during prototyping, deployment, and field operation. Using the PSM devices enable designers to add digital PMBus/SMBus/I2C-interface based control, telemetry, and black-box fault recording to analog DC-DC power converters.

Power Management ICs

Analog Devices Inc. Power Management ICs (PMICs) power innovation with precision and efficiency. With unmatched power densities, ultra-low noise technology, and superior reliability, Analog Devices’ PMIC portfolio supports complex power architectures in the most demanding applications, including industrial, automotive, and aerospace. Electronics engineers and designers are supported with power management evaluation boards and design tools, such as LTspice®, to ease development and optimize performance. From Silent Switcher® regulators and µModule® power solutions to advanced battery management, LDOs, and digital power control, ADI delivers high-efficiency, low-noise, and compact solutions that ensure reliability and scalability.

PMBus Power System Managers

Analog Devices Inc. LTC2977, LTC2975, LTC2980, LTM2987 PMBus Power System Managers can be powered from 3.3V, or 4.5V to 15V. The PMBus managers are designed to margin, supervise, sequence, and trim 4, 8, and 16-channel power supplies. Supply disturbances are minimized for DACs using a proprietary soft-connect algorithm. Overvoltage and undervoltage threshold limits for power supply output and input channels are some of the supervisory functions included. When monitoring microprocessor activity for a stalled condition the watchdog timer resets the microprocessor if necessary. No additional software is needed with autonomous operation supported by configuration EEPROM.

LTC2975 4-Channel PMBus™ Power System Managers

Analog Devices Inc. LTC2975 4-Channel PMBus™ Power System Managers (PSMs) are designed to sequence, trim (servo), margin, supervise, manage faults, provide telemetry, and create fault logs. These digital PSMs with a PMBus-compliant command set supports power supply sequencing, precision point-of-load voltage adjustment, and margining. The programmable fault responses can disable the power supplies with an optional retry after a fault is detected. The faults that disable the power supplies can automatically trigger black box EEPROM storage of fault status and associated telemetry. The LTC2975 PSMs feature an internal 16-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) that monitors four output voltages, four output currents, four external temperatures, input voltage, input current, and die-temperature. Typical applications include computers, network servers, industrial test/measurement, video/medical imaging, and high-reliability systems.
